RECAP OF THE MARRTOWN REUNION 2009

Several Marrtowneers: Denver and Connie Cline, Paulette (Grogg) Mackey, Becky Grogg, Bobby “Bert” McNemar, Pam (Jeffrey) Cunningham, and I figured that 16 years was to long to go without a reunion, so we got together and started planning the 3rd Marrtown Reunion. After months and months of planning, organizing and preparing the day had come. Sunday, June 7th from 12-6 at the Fort Boreman Park. We had extra helpers for the setup that morning. Sharon (Jeffrey), Steven and Shane Williams, Becky (Jeffrey) Baumgartner and Marcia Grogg all volunteered to help. We had the tables and signs setup by 11:00 Once complete we got pictures of the group in the bright gold shirts with Marrtown Reunion 2009 on the front complements of Sharon (Jeffrey) Williams. Guests started arriving around 11:30. Throughout the day we had around 200 people stopping by. The food was plentiful and delicious. No-one left hungry. JR Parsons brought a large sheet cake decorated for the occasion. Yum-Yum. The activities started at 2:00. A sawdust contest for the children. Money was put into the sawdust and Kids in different age groups got to dig in and find as much money as they could. The 50/50 contest was drawn. Pam (Jeffrey) Cunningham had the winning ticket. $45.00 The M&M contest was drawn and Sara Baumgartner won the M&M’s. The picture contest created by Pauletta was won by Sandy Blosser. Pauletta (Grogg) Mackey made an excellent book about Marrtown with pictures and articles. She also made CD with the information that was in the book and sold them for $10.00. Anyone interested in purchasing one can contact Pauletta at pmackey@suddenlink . The book was raffled off and Tina Allen was the elated winner. Door prizes were given out before and after the Surprise Auction . Everything was in closed bags and you had to bid on the unknown. Somebags went for very little while others went for a higher price. Lee Cunningham kept bidding against his wife Pam, until she realized it was him then she went after him. Everyone got a laugh out of that. Another funny episode was when a strawberry cake was auctioned off for $1.00. Anyone bidding on it only had to pay a dollar. The last person to bid got the cake. My granddaughter Kenzie really wanted the cake. Jean (McNemar) Waybright’s granddaughter also wanted the cake. It was so cute to see them keep bidding against each other. People kept giving each dollar bills so they could keep it going. Jean’s granddaughter finally won it. The cake made us $54.00. Special prizes given out for:: The oldest person attending: Eloise Parsons Wigal (89) The youngest person attending: Aiden Waybright (2 mo) The family living the longest in Marrtown: Harreld and Wilma Jeffrey (52 years). The person(s) traveling the farthest: Sharon (Jeffrey) Williams, her boys, Steven and Shane from Wyoming.

Do You Remember The Rock?
The Grogg girls made a great centerpiece of the rock that was at the end of the playground at the Marrtown School. Kids would head for the rock on recess and at lunch time. They had the ball field and even the tether ball court. Unfortunately it got destroyed sometime during the day. Randy Reeder wanted to take it home with him to restore to its original design. Good Luck Randy.
We had some flaws and mistakes but all in all I think everyone had a great time and is looking forward to more. One complaint the committee had was that the county commission said we had to remove the trash ourselves and replace the trash bags. We were willing to do that, but when we got there the trash cans were all full and trash was laying on the ground around the cans from a previous event. We did gather up and took our trash away when we were done. We are hoping to have another reunion next year; tentative date is June 13, 2010, at Dupont Park pending confirmation. Anyone interested in helping please email me at dkj_babah@yahoo.com. Debbie (Jeffrey) Jacks
